Around our house, I try to avoid labelling toys as "Cam's" or "Megan's". Except for a few very special toys, all toys belong to all of us. So if Megan has a shovel and Cam tries to swipe it from her, I tell him no, even if it's hard for him to grasp at this point that not everything is "mine". But an amazing side effect has started to emerge: Megan will wait to be sure I am going to defend her possession of the item. Then, as long as she's sure that Mommy will take her side, she offers it up to Cam, and everyone is happy!
It's wonderful to find an approach that works...
