Hueston Woods trip

I'd been wanting to check out this Lodge. It wasn't too far out of Cincy, and I kept seeing "deals" in Reach magazine. So we went on David's weekend off. We had to stay both nights (that's the only way they do weekend reservations)

We left Friday about 4:30p, hit a bunch of Hamilton traffic, got there maybe 6p. Settled in, ate at the Lodge for dinner. After that, we played shuffleboard, which the kids enjoyed, and made a fire in one of the firepits available. (bought the fixing for s'mores from the lodge desk) We also swam in the pool for a bit. I was thrilled that there was NO RAIN. (rain was predicted for the whole weekend)

On Saturday, we had a hodge-podge of food David had brought for our breakfast. Then we headed to the dock. We rented a pontoon boat, and it was great fun. We all liked how we could walk around. It was especially fun after David figured out how to get is off "idle" speed. Cam steered a bit at idle speed, Megan was excited to drive when we started getting faster. We tried to catch the wake of other boats, and sometimes our own wake. We saw a bunch of sailboats taking a class.

After boating, we bought the kids fishing poles, and they actually fished for maybe 25 minutes, which is longer than I would have guessed it could hold their attention. No fish was caught; maybe next time.

We spent some time at the nature center. There was a cougar and a bobcat, along with several types of owls. They were all rescue animals.

Then we headed to the horses. Megan and David took a 35-minute ride. They both said they enjoyed it, and Megan actually got to canter. (that's when the horse runs right??) Cam and I walked a little way down the horse trail, which isn't especially pleasant on foot. (icky)

Paintball was next, Megan and David aiming at the paintball targets. Cam and I were content to watch.

We spent some time on the frisbee golf course - we were able to borrow frisbees from the lodge desk. The kids enjoyed the hanging vines. Megan was able to throw her frisbee as well as I could. David showed off with some looong throws.

We roasted hot dogs for dinner Saturday, played a little more shuffleboard, and the kids ran wild on the huge field behind the lodge. Unfortunately the hay ride was cancelled, and the "bonfire" was just kinda lame. The kids did watch the "movie in the lobby" (The Bee Movie)

Sunday morning was a delicious breakfast buffet at the lodge, and then a little more swimming at the indoor pool. We also participated in the crafts that were taking place in a hall in the lodge. Then we were off, making it home in time for the Bengals game.
