This morning Megan got tubes inserted into her ears. She happened to wake just when we needed to leave, so I packed her into her car seat and gave her her Clifford dog. She snuggled with Clifford all the way to Children's Hospital (about 20 miles) When we got there she was still holding him. We checked in and had to wait about an hour until the surgery. Megan is not crawling yet, so we held her on our laps and tried to amuse her with the toys and TV in the room. Since she hadn't eaten since last night, and she missed about 4 hours of sleep, she naturally started to get a little grumpy.
I went with her to the anethesia room. She did not want to have that mask over her face, but once it was, her little body went limp so quickly it was very scary.
After the surgery she woke up almost immediately, and so did not have a chance to sleep off the anethesia. When we went to get her she was crying inconsolably and nothing calmed her down. We even offered her a bottle of formula, but still she was upset. I finally dressed her in some pajamas and she calmed down and went to sleep. She stayed asleep when I put her in the car seat, all the way home, and for maybe an hour after that. When she woke up she was herself again.
It takes two of us to put her ear drops in, but we have a system down and she doesn't struggle any more.
